Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a modulation technique which is now used in broadband wired and wireless communication systems. OFDM is also a promising technology for optical communications. This paper gives the major drawbacks of optical OFDM and methods to minimize them. The main drawbacks of OFDM are its high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and its sensitivity to phase noise and frequency offset. In this paper, five novel schemes based on greedy algorithm are proposed to reduce the PAPR in OFDM systems. Keywords
